FONDA SPEEDWAY NAMED MONTGOMERY COUNTY’S APRIL SMALL BUSINESS OF THE MONTH
Historic Racetrack Continues To Deliver Great Racing & Fun Family Entertainment
FONDA – Located just off the New York State Thruway, in Fonda, the hallowed Fonda Speedway, the “Track of Champions,” is a half-mile clay oval located on the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, which hosts weekly stock car racing from April through September. Opening in 1953, the Fonda Speedway is among the most historic tracks in the nation.
The Fonda Speedway has been selected as Montgomery County’s April Small Business of the Month by County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Business Development Center because of its long history of providing fun-filled entertainment and being an attraction that brings people to the county.
Fonda Speedway joined the National Association for Stock Car Automobile Racing (NASCAR) Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series in 2023, and is a NASCAR-sanctioned facility, providing insurance and financial benefits to racers and marketing value to the track and its partners. The speedway is in the running for a $50,000 improvement grant through NASCAR. Voting is online through May 5 at www.advancemytrack.com.
“The Fonda Speedway is great family fun and certainly something that Montgomery County is known for,” County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. “The team at the Fonda Speedway is a great community partner and the entertainment they provide our community is second to none. There’s never a bad evening when you are enjoying races at the historic Fonda Speedway.”
Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Four Cylinders compete weekly at the Fonda Speedway, with appearances by a number of touring divisions. If you are a race fan that gets to the track early, be sure to check out the Fonda Speedway Museum & Hall of Fame, which is located on the fairgrounds at the rear of the parking area down towards turn four. The museum is open from 3-6 p.m., on race days and admission is free.
“Fonda Speedway holds a special place in Montgomery County,” promoter Brett Deyo said. “The speedway has operated since 1953, bringing thousands into the county to watch national-level driver challenge the local stars. Our loyal group of racers, sponsors, fans and employees are second-to-none. We are very proud to be a staple in the county.”
Fonda Speedway annually pays out the richest winner’s share in dirt-track Modified racing, with the Fonda 200. That event, which will be held this year from Sept. 14-16, offers $53,000 to the winner. That event attracts thousands of fans and hundreds of drivers annually. The speedway also hosts an Autism Awareness Night, with proceeds going to the Crossroads Center for Children, in Schenectady. Last year’s autism night raised $30,000.
“Racing at the Fonda Speedway is always an exciting event,” Montgomery County Business Development Center CEO Ken Rose said. “Having an historic track here locally, right in the middle of our community, is a great thing to bring people to the area. It also allows local families to have the experience of attending high-level racing, without having to travel outside of our community. The Fonda Speedway has been entertaining crowds with high-level racing for a long time.”
More information on the Fonda Speedway can be found at the website www.thefondaspeedway.com, by emailing fondaspdwy@gmail.com or by calling (518) 915-4395.
