Animals Get The First-Class Treatment At South Side Amsterdam Pet Shop

FONDA – Jodi Drygula opened Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming in July 2018. Since that time, the business has moved to a bigger location on Bridge Street, in Amsterdam, incorporated pet grooming and tripled the size of its retail operations. But the goal has always remained the same — give pet owners the ability to make their pets feel special.

Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming has been selected as Montgomery County’s February Small Business of the Month by County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Business Development Center because pets and pet owners are appreciated at this must-visit location on the south side of Amsterdam, even during any “ruff” times.

Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming was nominated for this recognition because it has everything to make your pets feel special. From collars, leashes, homemade biscuits, toys, everything for pets is available at Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming. Drygula wants the community to know that the business has recently added grooming to its variety of different offers.

“Jodi has turned her love of animals into a successful business, which has become a great addition to the community,” Montgomery County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. “As a pet owner, I want to have high-quality items. Pets are really like family members and Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming allows you to get everything you need to pamper them.”

Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming hosts a “Yappy Hour” and themes them accordingly. For instance, last October, they had a Pet Parade and Halloween Costume Contest, and in December, they host pet pictures with Santa. This spring, they will have a doggy Easter Egg Hunt. They put out beverages and snacks for humans and pups get a free goody bag. Miss Blue’s also hosts pint and sip nights.

Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming has four flavors of homemade doggy ice cream available daily. In addition to the first flavor — peanut butter — now available are options of apricot, cherry, cranberry, blueberry, pumpkin, chocolate raspberry, chocolate cherry and peanut butter cup. All of the chocolate flavors are made with carob and not actual chocolate, so as not to harm any pets. Homemade doggy birthday cakes and mini pup cakes and cookies are also available daily.

“I love the small city, big heart feeling. I love the fact that everyone knows everyone, and we all support each other in Amsterdam and Montgomery County,” Drygula said. “All the small business owners know each other and support each other’s businesses. I always refer people to other small businesses in the community. We sponsor the Amsterdam Mohawks every year, as well other community events. We tailor whatever events the city has for dogs. For example, we make a pet-friendly chicken soup for soupfest, a boneless bbq chicken chunk for Wingfest, and for the Pub Crawl, we make a ham and potato meal.”

Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming makes it a point to participate in all of the community events that take place. Drygula is thrilled to be providing this service and running her business. She can’t thank the local community for supporting her shop and allowing her to celebrate her fifth anniversary, this coming summer.

“These types of small, local businesses, where you know the owner and get the personal experience, are really what makes up a community,” Montgomery County Business Development Center CEO Ken Rose said. “Over the past few years, we’ve been spending more time at home and pets have become even more important in people’s lives.”

Miss Blue’s Pet Boutique & Grooming is located at 51 Bridge St., in Amsterdam. They are available by email at or by phone at (518) 212-2332. They are also active on Facebook and Instagram @missbluespetboutique.
