FONDA – Donna and Craig Durinick have owned and operated Cappies for a quarter century. The couple took over the longtime seasonal eatery in 1997, but Cappies has been around a lot longer. It was Donna’s aunt and uncle, Terry and John DiCaprio, who founded Cappies back in 1965. No matter who has been running Cappies, the restaurant is a hit and definitely a must-visit.
Cappies has been selected as Montgomery County’s July Small Business of the Month by County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Business Development Center because of its decades of serving the community great food and good times.
“Cappies is a tradition in Amsterdam,” County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. “It is a destination that everyone goes this time of year and know that you’ll get great food and their ice cream is unbelievable. Thank you to Craig and Donna Durinick and their family for providing the area with an outstanding establishment for all of these years.”
Cappies is a popular Amsterdam restaurant, known for its famous hot dogs “all the way” and its homemade ice cream and milk shakes. It’s not just tremendous hot dogs and outstanding desserts, Cappies has cheeseburgers, onion rings, chicken, shrimp or clam dinners and much, much more.
“Providing a friendly, family atmosphere for all our customers has been our priority,” Donna Durinick said. “We have enjoyed the relationships we have built throughout the years. We have been privileged to serve many Montgomery County residents, as well as visitors from near and far.”
Cappies is well known in the area for its great food, friendly service and outstanding atmosphere. Their decades of being a successful family-run restaurant has made them more than just a business, they are a part of the local community and a rite of passage come spring and summer. Make sure to get to Cappies soon because it will be closing its doors for the season on Aug. 13.
“Family-run businesses make up a strong part of the local economy,” Montgomery County Business Development Center CEO Ken Rose said. “Cappies has been and continues to be a staple of summertime here in Montgomery County.”
Cappie’s is located on Route 67, in Amsterdam. You can check them out on Facebook or contact them at (518) 843-3544.
