FONDA – Robbie and Shannon Dygert moved back to their family farm in 2009. Two years ago, they began work on a processing plant to bottle and sell dairy products made at the farm. Now, as a family of six, operating on a 13th generation dairy farm, Dygert Farms Creamery products can be purchased at its farmstand in Palatine Bridge, in more than 40 stores in and around Montgomery County and even online to be delivered right to your home.
Dygert Farms Creamery has been named Montgomery County’s November Small Business of the Month by County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Business Development Center because their farm has been in operation for 300 years and when you buy local, you really can taste the difference.
“Dygert Farms Creamery is a terrific family-run agribusiness in Montgomery County,” County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. “Their products are high quality and Robbie and Shannon invite people to visit the farm to see the cows and where all of their dairy products come from.”
In addition to purchasing items at their farmstand like fresh white and chocolate milk in glass or plastic, Dygert Farms Creamery offers half & half, eggs, meats and Cabot cheeses. They recently made a delicious eggnog, which is available for the holiday season. They also offer their products online, through wholesale and distribution.
Robbie and Shannon Dygert have been expanding the operation at their farm, as they have expanded their family, adding children Dylan, Olivia, Tucker and Cassidy. In 2015, Dygert Farms Creamery started delivering fresh milk from another local dairy, with the goal of bottling their own. In 2019, they began work on a processing plant on the farm and this past April, they began processing their own milk. Their cows are milked twice per day and they raise and grow 90 percent of the feed for the animals. Dygert Farms Creamery has been named a Dairy of Distinction in New York and has received several Super Milk Awards for the quality of their product.
“We are very proud to be located in Montgomery County, where we can raise our four children on our family farm,” owner Shannon Dygert said. “We love that we milk our own cows and process our own milk from our historic dairy right here in the beautiful Mohawk Valley. We deliver our milk and other products to businesses and homes here and love becoming a familiar face in the community. We love sharing what we do — our love for farming and how important dairy farming is to the general public.”
Dygert Farms Creamery is located at 243 Dygert St., in Palatine Bridge. Their farmstand is open 24/7 and is self-serve. You can order products on their website www.dygertfarmscreamery.com, and they can be delivered locally. They also encourage you to follow them on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/dygertfarms), as they love sharing what goes on at the farm and how much goes into producing their delicious milk.
“It is quite impressive what Robbie and Shannon have done, taking a family farm, dating back nearly 300 years, and now bottling and selling their product, turning Dygert Farms Creamery into a true agribusiness,” Montgomery County Business Development Center CEO Ken Rose said. “They continue to add on to what they have by offering products online and providing local delivery and their business only continues to grow.”
Dygert Farms is a 13th generation dairy farm located in the beautiful Mohawk Valley. The farm house at the Dygert Family Creamery sits on the original 50 acres, in Palatine Bridge, that was deeded to the Dygert family, back in 1723, from the Queen of England. The dairy farm will be turning 300-years-old in 2023, taking it from one of a very few remaining operational bi-centennial farms to a tri-centennial dairy farm.
