Amsterdam Bakery Brings A Taste Of New York City To Upstate

FULTONVILLE – It may be an argument to some, but Angelo Bosignore believes the best bread products come from the New York City area. Bosignore, a native of Brooklyn, who now lives in Wells, wanted to make sure that people upstate enjoyed some of the best types of bagels, breads and pastries. Now, you can get all of those and more at the Riverfront Bakery, in Amsterdam.

Riverfront Bakery has been selected as Montgomery County’s Small Business of the Month by County Executive Pete Vroman and the Montgomery County Business Development Center because of the tremendous tasting products that are available and the entrepreneurial work ethic of Bosignore, the owner.

“Riverfront Bakery is a taste of New York City right here in Montgomery County,” County Executive Pete Vroman said. “These fresh, great-tasting items available right here in our area is a great asset to the community. I commend Angelo Bosignore on his idea and his efforts in opening his first retail location.”

Riverfront Bakery opened its Amsterdam location late last year, but the idea of capturing the great tasting bread products from New York City and offer them upstate has been one that is years in the making. Bosignore, has been traveling south to get ingredients since 2018. He had previously been selling those items wholesale, but the new retail location is off to a great start.

“Montgomery County has been great to my business and the community is loving our bagels, bread and other products,” Bonsignore said. “I feel that Montgomery County is growing and growing, with new businesses and residents moving in especially, with it being so close to the Thruway. I’m happy to serve the community with great products from Brooklyn. I plan on working really hard to make Riverfront Bakery a success and plan on expanding, with even more products.”

Bosignore says everyone has been supportive so far, with more than half of his customers returning weekly. He thinks there is significant room to grow the business, thanks, in part, to the area’s affordability.

“We see this frequently, where a business will capitalize on the affordability of the area to allow their business the strength to grow,” Montgomery County Business Development Center CEO Ken Rose said. “Angelo is someone who has found his niche in this particular baked goods market and isn’t afraid to make small changes and pivots to serve the community better. The early success of his retail location shows proof of concept.”

Bosignore also sees opportunities outside of his bakery business. As a filmmaker, who has experience writing, directing, and producing, he would eventually like to provide those types of chances to area youth.

“We need more artists in Montgomery County,” Bosignore said. “We need more things for kids to do in the wintertime, when outdoor activities may be limited.”

Riverfront Bakery is located in the Riverfront Center in Amsterdam. The shop is open Thursday-Sunday from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. They have a website (www.riverfrontcookies.com), where you can see and order a wide variety of available products. Riverfront Bakery also posts daily specials and seasonal items on its Facebook page @amsterdamNYbakery.
