FONDA – Rochelle and David Sahler jumped at the opportunity to purchase The Rustic Red House at the Glen Country Store in 2018. They had been fans of the store since the first time they visited as customers. It’s easy to see why.
The Glen Country Store was built in the mid 1850’s and remains the only historic commercial building in the Glen Historic District. The Rustic Red House is located at the famous five corners on State Highway Route 30A in Glen.
With its timeless décor and cozy atmosphere, the Rustic Red House at the Glen Country Store is an ideal place to visit and why it was selected as Montgomery County’s August Small Business of the Month by County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Business Development Center.
“The Rustic Red House at the Glen Country Store is such a unique shop,” County Executive Matthew L. Ossenfort said. “They have fascinating items to buy and great food. For people who love history, like me, it can feel like you are travelling back in time when you walk into the store because of the items on display.”
The Rustic Red House is full of fresh, local products, including cookies, pies, deli meat and fresh fudge from Vermont. Sandwiches are some of their best sellers. Thursday nights are their Prime Rib special and leftovers are used for their celebrated prime rib sandwiches.
“It is a pleasure having our store in Montgomery County,” co-owners Rochelle and David Sahler said. “Not only are we one of the few historic stores still operating in the area, but we have the pleasure serving all of the wonderful people that have not only been great customers, but have also become good friends to us. We hope to see everyone for years to come and look forward to meeting many new people as times goes on.”
The Rustic Red House at the Glen Country Store has something for everyone. They recently reopened their workshop and have been making items for customers by order. This summer, the Rustic Red House at the Glen Country Store was voted “Best Cookies” at the Glen Bicentennial cookie contest. The store has also recently been vote “Best Business” by the community on the Nextdoor app.
“This historic restaurant is a true hidden gem in our community,” Montgomery County Business Development Center CEO Ken Rose said. “It’s a place that helps to foster a sense of camaraderie and reminds us of the importance of supporting our local small businesses to ensure the vibrancy of our communities.”
The Rustic Red House at the Glen Country Store is open from 11 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., and until 8 p.m., on Thursdays.
