(FONDA, NY) – Motivated by a personal passion for the outdoors – especially hunting and fishing – Tanya Towne, owner/operator of The Sportsman’s Den in Fort Plain, has something for anyone looking to explore Montgomery County’s extensive recreational opportunities.
To thank Tanya for the work she does, especially during this particularly busy time of the year, The Sportsman’s Den has been named Montgomery County’s November Small Business of the Month by County Executive Matt Ossenfort and the Montgomery County Business Development Center.
“Montgomery County is synonymous with the outdoors. Whether you are enjoying the Mohawk River, exploring the Schoharie Crossing State Park, or hunting our hills and valleys, there’s something for everyone in our community. Outdoor recreation is also a major driver of tourism and that’s good news for our local economy. More importantly, Tanya Towne has a passion for giving back to Fort Plain and the surrounding area. On behalf of all our local hunters, fishermen, and everyone in our county, I want to congratulate Tanya and thank her for all she does for the Fort Plain community,” said County Executive Ossenfort.
The shop was recommended for the award through the BDC’s social media platforms from customers who lauded The Sportsman’s Den, saying, “They’re always well stocked, very informative, and always community oriented! They do deserve this!” The shop is especially noted for their support of the Fort Plain community, whether it’s sponsoring the Fort Plain Little League, school teams, or donating fishing gear to the Cub Scouts.
After retiring from a career in the military, Tanya founded The Sportsman’s Den because she felt there was a strong need for a local a hunting and fishing store. Having been instilled with a passion for the outdoors since a young age, she decided to take the leap and opened the shop in September 2011. What started as a single store front space has now evolved into a three-storefront-wide business with an expanse of inventory for local hunter and fishermen, as well as an indoor archery range.
“Businesses succeed when they find a need and fill it, and that’s exactly what Tanya has done with The Sportsman’s Den. No matter someone’s passion, Tanya has the expertise to help customers get the most out of their next hunting or fishing outing. We’re proud to recognize the hard work and dedication that Tanya brings to our community,” said Montgomery County Business Development Center CEO Ken Rose.
